Importing Custom Basemaps

By default, SkyFlight displays satellite imagery as a basemap so users can visualize the surroundings from a bird's eye perspective. This can be changed to a standard map with road and building labels.

These default base maps serve as a general guide for the users, however, the app cannot ensure the timeliness of the information provided. If the user prefers to use a specific map as a reference, the user can import a custom basemap.

Supported Basemap Files

SkyFlight supports basemap files generated by DataHub, EdgeServer or EdgePlus. These are files with file extension ".skybasemap". You may export them after processed and remember to toggle on the Custom Basemap before running the processing:

DataHub

After processing is done, export the custom base map to your SD drive to connect to the RC for SkyFlight to read it. Do not rename the file.
To download it in DataHub select the dataset desired to be used as the base map, then click the quick download button. In the download menu, select SkyFlight Files

Download the skybasemap file then save on a preferred SD Card/Flash Drive.

EdgePlus

Select and toggle on the Custom Base Map.

After processing is done, export the custom base map to your SD drive to connect to the RC for SkyFlight to read it. Do not rename the file.

EdgeServer

Select and toggle on the Custom Base Map.

After processing is done, export the custom base map to your SD drive to connect to the RC for SkyFlight to read it. Do not rename the file.

Basemap File Import Steps

This feature works with the Flight Mission workflow. You need to click on the Create mission button and then select a high-precision survey.

You may skip the import selections if you do not plan on importing a KML File or a DSM file for Terrain Following.

Once the flight mission is displayed on the screen, simply click on the Layers button then select the Add Basemap button

Navigate to your desired basemap file then select it.

SkyFlight will now display your custom base map in the viewport so you can plan your flight with convenience and precision. You can adjust the zoom level by touching the screen.

Note: We recommend using small to medium area coverage for the custom basemaps, as very large files could compromise performance due to the RC's capabilities
