Validation on RTK data uploads


We’ve added a step to validate your RTK precision files during the upload process so you can always be sure you’re uploading the right precision files for RTK processing.

This new process will verify your precision files and notify you if there is an issue with the precision files added to the upload. This process takes around 1 to 3 minutes and you will be notified if the validation was successful or if there was an error with one of the files in your upload. If you receive an error, please verify that all the criteria are met and retry upload.

GNSS Logs (Explore1 RTK Files)

GNSS logs (Explore1 RTK files) must meet the following criteria:

✓ File must not be empty

✓ File extension must be in .ubx or .sbp format

✓ GNSS logs must start before the first photo is taken and end after the last photo. The Explore1 drone software takes care of ensuring this happens automatically, but we will still verify it in the uploader

Observations (Local Base or Network RTK)

Uploads with local base station observations (RINEX file) must meet the following criteria:

✓ File extension is .obs, .17o, or .18o format

✓ Please note that you can only upload one RINEX file per upload

✓ Your local base observations must span the entirety of all flights in the datasets. Please ensure the logs start before the first photo of the first flight is taken, and must end after the last photo of the last flight. We check this by comparing timestamps and the internal log contents

✓ Your NTRIP logs must span the entirety of all GNSS logs in the datasets. Please ensure the logs start before the start time of the GNSS logs, and end after the end time of the GNSS logs.

✓ Correct location of the base station phase center

  • X/Y of ground position must be within 2km from the farthest photo

  • If you’ve established your site on Skycatch to use a known/standard local coordinate system, the information you provide should be in that local coordinate system

  • If you’ve established your site in Skycatch to use an arbitrary local coordinate system, you will need to use WGS84 for the base position and use height above ellipsoid for the elevation

  • Height of antenna phase center must be greater than zero. Elevation value of the base station should take into account the elevation of the ground in the surveyed point + the height from ground to antenna phase center (pole height plus phase center height).

Uploads with Network RTK observations (using Skycatch NTRIP) must meet following criteria:

✓ No observation logs should be added to the upload, only the GNSS logs from the drone (UBX files). Skycatch will automatically retrieve and apply the NTRIP observations in the cloud.

✓ Your NTRIP logs must span the entirety of all flights in the dataset. Please ensure the logs start before the first photo of the first flight is taken, and end after the last photo of the last flight. We check this by comparing timestamps and the internal log contents.

✓ Your NTRIP logs must span the entirety of all GNSS logs in the datasets. Please ensure the logs start before the start time of the GNSS logs, and end after the end time of the GNSS logs.

✓ Distance between the location of the closest photo in the mission and location where the NTRIP logger was started must be less than 4km

✓ There must be no gaps of observations greater than 30 seconds

 

If any of the above criteria are not met when uploading data for processing, you will see the error message below. If this happens, close the window and return to the upload flow. Note that all precision files you previously added will be removed. Please re-confirm the precision files meet the above criteria and retry the validation process again.
