How to Deal with Weather Conditions

Prior to operating your drone, please have an anemometer and local weather forecasts available to give the most recent weather readings at the altitude the drone will be operating at.

Wind

The DJI Phantom 3 is rated to operate at 10 m/s = 22.369 mph = 36 kph.

Golden rule of operating a drone is to not fly faster than the wind gusts.

Example:

  • If the wind is blowing at 7 m/s but gusts are hitting 12 m/s, one shall be advised to stay grounded because the gusts may blow your drone far away and if the drone is rated at 10 m/s, it may not be able to fight the gusts.

Rain

Do not operate the drone when it rains.  The unit may get wet, malfunction, and a crash may occur.

Cold and Heat

The DJI Phantom 3 is rated to operate at 0°C to 40°C = 32°F to 104°F.

Do not operate your drone at under freezing temperatures or past heat temperatures to prevent a malfunction and a crash.
