Import a KML File into the Flight1 App (v1.7.5+)

DataHub users can now import KML files from Google Earth (file type must be .kml) into the Flight1 flight app (versions 1.7.5 and above). There are currently three methods for importing a KML file into your Flight1 app.

Creating and Saving Your KML File

Step 1- Import a Polygon to Google Earth

  1. Click the "Add Polygon" button. Currently, the only KML file that is readable by the EVO3x flight app is a KML file generated by a polygon.Evo3xFlightApp-1.7.5and1.7.jpg
  2. A dialog box will ask you to name your polygon. If you wish to change the style and color, you can do so here. **Do not click "OK" yet

Step 2 - Export File from Google Earth

  1. Right-click on the polygon illustration on the map or polygon file in the Places Panel and select the "Save Place As" option
  2. Select where you want to save your file on your computer.
  3. From the "Save As Type" dropdown, select the ".kml" file format.Screen_Shot_2017-06-27_at_4.28.12_PM.png

Importing Your KML File

Option 1 - Import file into Flight1 flight app using Airdrop

If your KML is from an iOS device, you can use the Airdrop feature to share it with the iOS device operating Flight. You will need to enable Bluetooth and ensure that the Flight iOS device is discoverable to use Airdrop.

Option 2 - Import file into Flight1 flight app via email

If the iOS device running Flight1 has internet access, you can access the KML as an email attachment. Once you open up the email with the files, you can download them to your iOS device and add them to Flight1.

Option 3 - Import file into Flight1 flight app using a thumb drive

The option will allow the user to put a KML file on a flash drive, connect the flash drive to the tablet using the telemetry radio cable adapter, and import that file via the mission board in the app. The file will be editable after import.
1. Copy the file onto a flash drive.
2. Transfer the .kml file from your computer to the iXpand drive.
3. Insert the iXpand drive into the iPad.
4. Open the iXpand app.
5. Select "Copy/Transfer Files"
6. Tap on the .kml file you wish to use.
7. A screen that looks like an error will pop up. Select "Open with"
