Coordinates for control points can be obtained using surveyors or survey equipment. Support for control points processing is currently offered for customers with Premier plan levels and above.
If your account is authorized to upload control points, you will see an option in the uploader to attach a control points file to your data upload. If you do not see the option for the control points file attachment and believe this to be an error, please contact us at support@skycatch.com
A few notes:
- Your control points file must be formatted as described here.
- We strongly recommend using Skycatch control points (the QR codes) as our software automatically detects and marks them in all the photos. This approach will greatly reduce the turnaround time for processing your data.
- There are two types of control points: ground control points and checkpoints. Checkpoints are currently only used for verification purposes if the user reports an issue with the accuracy of their dataset, so you will not automatically receive an accuracy report if you choose to upload control points with a dataset.
If you're starting to use more control points, you may want to consider our High Precision Package which includes the use of our RTK quadcopter. It gets you the equivalent of a GCP for every photo, with zero time spent laying down GCPs.
If you have a plan that supports control points uploads (HPP and premier), the upload process reveals a section in the upload bar.
You can upload your control points in one of two ways:
1. Automatically upload control points
a. After you've formatted and saved your control points file, as described in the Control Points File Format article, you can either drag and drop the file into the control points upload section or click browse to find and select the control points file on your computer.
2. Manually enter control points:
If you are using Skycatch control point markers
a. Add the name of the control point
b. Add the tag ID #. The tag ID # must correspond to the number assigned to each Skycatch Control Point. More information here.
c. Toggle to YES if the control point is a checkpoint
d. Enter the northing, easting, and height
If you are not using Skycatch control point markers
a. Add the name of the control point
b. Leave the tag ID # blank
c. Toggle to YES if the control point is a checkpoint
d. Enter the northing, easting, and height
Note: If you manually enter your control points, you can export a .csv file of these coordinates by clicking EXPORT CSV.

Troubleshooting
Q: After I uploaded a .csv file of my control points, why does my screen display “Invalid Coordinate System?” like in the screenshot below?
A: Make sure your control points file is formatted in the same coordinate system as your site coordinate file.
